There’s something magical about weddings at 1880 Garten Verein in Galveston, Texas that feels completely different from a traditional ballroom wedding. The historic architecture, wraparound porches, tall windows and warm wood details give the venue so much personality before you even add flowers or décor.
And photographically? There are little pockets of beautiful light everywhere.
This wedding was filled with the kind of moments I’m always looking for. Quiet interactions between the couple, friends laughing together before the ceremony, emotional moments with family, and a reception that actually felt like a celebration rather than a list of things everyone had to get through.
That’s one of the reasons I love photographing weddings like this. The photographs don’t have to be built around constant posing or a perfectly curated timeline. I’ll guide you when you need it, but I also want you to actually experience your wedding while I document what’s happening around you.
Getting Married at 1880 Garten Verein
Located in Galveston’s historic district, 1880 Garten Verein has that romantic, old-Galveston character that is incredibly hard to recreate somewhere newer.
The building itself gives couples several completely different looks in one location — the exterior architecture, porches, surrounding greenery, historic windows and the darker atmosphere inside once the reception begins.
It also works beautifully for couples planning a more intimate wedding. A smaller guest list doesn’t mean your wedding has to feel like less of a wedding day. You can still have the dress, the portraits, a beautiful ceremony, dinner, dancing, cake and all of the parts that actually matter to you — without adding traditions simply because you feel like you’re supposed to.
And honestly, those tend to be some of my favorite weddings to photograph.
